How does one choose a right Dentist?

You should go to your very own family dentist as you would go to your family doctor.  For, he would know of the dental history of your family and be able to plan a good dental programme for you.  If you don't have a family doctor, one needs to take the correct precautions while selecting the right one for you and your family.  The best thing would be to ask around.  Your friends and your workmates may be your best guides.  You could even ask your family doctor to recommend a dentist to you.   Going to a non-specialised dentist could be severely damaging your health.  So please check thoroughly on the credentials of your dentist before you surrender your pearly whites to his care.

How often does one need to see a Dentist?

It is recommended that you visit your dentist every six months. For a general check-up and for any signs of infection or cavity. The objective of your visit to the dentist's clinic should be a preventive check and thorough cleaning. When to start? Children should be introduced to your dentist when they are little over a year old and from then on, it should be atleast once a year or twice - as your dentist prescribes.

Do mouthrinses and mouthwashes really help?

It is just a matter of personal hygiene.  Let us just say that products like mouthwashes and mouthrinses do not damage our teeth or gums in any way.  If used as directed, regularly along with brushing and flossing, they go a long way in preventing tooth decay.
